Van Rossum

The JAK armchair and sofa are in line with the purest « van rossumian » tradition. To me, it evokes the work on solid wood, something rustic and simple, very reassuring, yet expressive, with outstanding details and beautiful finishes. It is from this culture and this brand identity that both pieces were born. To this evocation and this robustness, echoes a work on the fold, from which a certain dynamic emerges. It is the representation of an artisanal craft, a play on tension, providing the wood with an even stronger expression. The overall lines of the drawing are quite pure, with the goal of achieving rather timeless pieces. It was also important for us to work on an element of comfort, the upholstered seat, that Van Rossum did not have yet in its collections. What you see is also the alliance between an interior comfort and a tensed structure, with that fold we gave to the wood to soften it’s line.

ZIG is a work on shape, on expression, a familiar figure. Made of shapes that seems to collide and occlude with one another, as they would in a sculpture in the making. Designing a ceramic is very much like a visual artist’s work. First, one has to work on the plaster mold. Then, the matter is poured into that mold before being enameled. It’s very technical, in the same way sculptures can be.
