Christophe Delcourt grandit à Paris. Son amour de la nature se manifeste dès son plus jeune âge. Il rêve même de travailler la terre. Mais c’est ailleurs qu’il trouvera sa voie : sur les planches d’une scène de théâtre. Pour les besoins d’une mise en scène, il élabore en effet des décors qu’il prend goût à assembler de ses propres mains. Sa vocation était née.

Son matériau de prédilection est le bois, parce que c’est une matière changeante, à la personnalité marquée, qui autorise une infinie richesse de formes et de teintes. Christophe Delcourt aime l’ennoblir, muer sa force brute en raffinement. À ce travail d'ébénisterie, il mêle un vocabulaire formel qui ne s’interdit rien, pas même l’association avec des éléments en céramique, pierre, bronze ou fibres naturelles.

Sensible aux lignes pures et intemporelles, Christophe Delcourt n’en dessine pas moins des pièces expressives, fortes, volontaires. Il sculpte la matière, s’y confronte, se plaît à la contredire parfois. Son travail de designer ne consiste jamais à rechercher l’effet, mais plutôt à soustraire, retrancher jusqu’à atteindre ce moment où la pièce devient architecture, concentré de rigueur et de poésie. Plus que les grands ensembliers du passé, ce sont les artistes modernistes qui nourrissent son trait : Isamu Noguchi, Constantin Brancusi, Rudolph Schindler.

Chercheur insatiable et curieux de tout, Christophe Delcourt aime explorer de nouveaux modes d’expression, se confronter à un outil de production, comprendre une culture d’entreprise.

Christophe Delcourt grew up in Paris. His love of nature showed itself from an early age – he even dreamed of working the land. But it was in another realm that he found his direction: on stage. Designing sets for a production, he discovered the joy of making them with his own hands and his vocation was born!

Wood is his material of predilection, a material that is ever changing and allows for an infinite variety of forms and hues. Christophe Delcourt likes to elevate it, transforming its raw strength into refinement. He combines the skill of cabinetmaking with a repertoire of form that excludes nothing, including the incorporation of elements in ceramic, stone, bronze or natural fibers.

With a propensity for pure, timeless lines, Christophe Delcourt nonetheless designs pieces that are expressive, powerful, willful. He sculpts the material, challenging it, sometimes contradicting it. His designs never seek effect, but rather to subtract, to cut away until the piece becomes architecture, a concentration of rigor and poetry. Rather than the great designers of the past, it is modern artists who inspire his work: Isamu Noguchi, Constantin Brancusi, Rudolf Schindler.

An insatiable investigator, interested in everything, Christophe Delcourt likes to explore new means of expression, experimenting with production methods, understanding the varying cultures of different companies.
